Meet the Governors

Hello and a very warm welcome from the Governing Body at St White's Primary School. We are a very committed and active Governing Body. As well as fulfilling our duties by supporting and challenging the Head Teacher and Senior Management Team, we also monitor activities and progress in school. We enjoy being involved in day to day events. All the teaching staff, support staff and governors work together with a common aim of providing a safe and vibrant learning environment in which all children can reach their potential and have an enjoyable experience in this wonderful school. As parents and carers, you are very much a part of the whole school community and your opinions and comments are very valuable to us.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries, suggestions, or general feedback for the school. I hope you enjoy finding out about our Governors below and keep checking back for more profiles shortly.

Matt Bishop
Chair of Governors

Matt Bishop - Chair of Governors

I have 2 children, both attending St Whites. My main background is in Law Enforcement and Children's Social Care although more recently I have joined the Department for Education. I was a Parent Governor between April 2013 & December 2016 and was voted in as a Co-Opted Governor in December 2016. I was elected as Chair of Governors in May 2014 and have held the post ever since. My job is to work closely with the Headteacher and to ensure Governors understand school policies, trends and strategic planning; so they can answer questions from pupils, staff, parents and Ofsted inspectors. I also sit on both the Finance & Premises and Personnel Committees. Pupils, parents and staff may see me around the school, in assembly for example. Im happy to talk to anybody interested in what Governors do or even if you would just like a general chat about the school!

Dan Beard - Vice Chair of Governors

I have two children, with my youngest attending St Whites. I have been a parent governor since Oct 2013 and was re-elected in Sept 2017. I was elected Vice Chair of Governors in May 2014. My job is to support and provide back up to the Chair of Governors, whilst also monitoring the schools finances and ensuring the school premises are functional, safe and secure for the pupils and teachers. I have a background in Technical engineering as well as leadership/management experience. If you see me around, feel free to approach me, I’d be more than happy to have a chat or answer any questions you may have. I have this year been elected as the Chair of the Curriculum & Assessment committees.

Teresa Cross - Head Teacher

Teresa is the Head Teacher of St White's. The Head Teacher is automatically a school Governor unless they wish to give up their position, however no-body can replace this position. Teresa has been at St White's since September 2013 initially as Deputy Head Teacher and she was promoted to Head Teacher in March 2014 following the resignation of the previous Head. She has overall responsibility for the operational running of the school and is a Deputy Safeguarding lead. She works closely with the Chair of Governors to ensure that the school is run to the best possible standards. Any strategic decisions with the running of the school are made by the Governors and Teresa has a strong input in these decisions.

Gemma Higgins - Parent Governor

Hi I am Gemma and I have been a Parent Governor since the summer 2014. My daughter attends St White's. I sit on the assessment and curriculum committees and have an extensive knowledge of SEN. I am the Governor responsible for SEN at school and work in the care industry.

Hello. My name is Richard Jones and I have recently been elected as a Parent Governor. I am the Chair of the Finance & Premises Committee. When our first son was in reception year I felt it was the right time for me to take an active interest in our local school. I now have 2 children at St Whites. I am a Chartered Surveyor and Director of a local Architecture firm and would hope to use some of my skills to assist the Governing Body in making sound, positive decisions. I feel I am very approachable and would be happy to discuss any queries you may have. I sit on the Finance & Premises and Personnel Committee.

Jose Brazier - Co-Opted Governor

My name is Jose Brazier and I have been a Community Governor at St. White's since 1991. In my former job, I taught French at Ribston Hall High School for Girls, Gloucester, so when I was asked to help introduce French at St. White's, I was happy to help Mrs. Wright in the Infants and Mrs. Bowles in the Juniors. I am currently helping in Chestnut Class with Reading but hope to assist with French again in the Autumn. As a Governor, I am on the Curriculum & Standards Committee and find the work interesting and challenging.
