Meet the Governors

Matt Bishop

Chair of Governors

I have 2 children, both attending St Whites. My main background is in Law Enforcement and Children's Social Care. More recently I have worked for the Department for Education and in Social Housing both as a consultant. I am designated as a Local Leader of Governance. I also work with the Local Authority as a Governor Trainer / External Reviewer. I am an additional Governor at another local primary school (appointed by the LA) and was elected Chair of Governors at that school. I also represent Primary School Governors at the Gloucestershire Schools Forum which deals primarily with the financial side of education. I was a Parent Governor between April 2013 & December 2016 and was voted in as a Co-Opted Governor in December 2016. I was elected as Chair of Governors in May 2014 and have held the post ever since. My job is to work closely with the Headteacher and to ensure Governors understand school policies, trends and strategic planning; so they can answer questions from pupils, staff, parents and Ofsted inspectors. I also sit on both the Finance & Premises and Personnel Committees. Pupils, parents and staff may see me around the school, in assembly for example. I am happy to talk to anybody interested in what Governors do or even if you would just like a general chat about the school!

Dan Beard

Vice Chair of Governors

I have two children, with my youngest attending St Whites. I have been a parent governor since Oct 2013 and was re-elected in Sept 2017. I was elected Vice Chair of Governors in May 2014. My job is to support and provide back up to the Chair of Governors, whilst also monitoring the schools finances and ensuring the school premises are functional, safe and secure for the pupils and teachers. I have a background in Technical engineering as well as leadership/management experience. If you see me around, feel free to approach me, I’d be more than happy to have a chat or answer any questions you may have. I have this year been elected as the Chair of the Curriculum & Assessment committees.

Richard Jones

Parent Governor

Hello. My name is Richard Jones and I have recently been elected as a Parent Governor. I am the Chair of the Finance & Premises Committee. When our first son was in reception year I felt it was the right time for me to take an active interest in our local school. I now have 2 children at St Whites. I am a Chartered Surveyor and Director of a local Architecture firm and would hope to use some of my skills to assist the Governing Body in making sound, positive decisions. I feel I am very approachable and would be happy to discuss any queries you may have. I sit on the Finance & Premises and Personnel Committee.

Alan Meredith

Parent Governor

My name is Alan, I have two children that attend St Whites. I have been a Parent Governor since September 2013. I am currently on the finance and premises committee.

Debra Clough

Parent Governor

I’m Debra and I became an elected Parent Governor in January 2017. My daughter started at St White’s when our family moved to the area from London, she is currently in year 6 and loves her school. I am part of the Finance & Premises Committee and also a Safeguarding Governor. I feel lucky to have the Forest on my doorstep and spend a great deal of time there walking my dog.

Gill Moir

Co-Opted Governor

Hello. My name is Gill Moir and I have worked as the School Business Manager at St. White’s School since the start of January 2016 until February 2019 when I started a new role with the Local Authority. I was very pleased to be elected to represent the staff of the school initially and then Co-Opted onto the governing body. I hope that I can use my experience of working at other schools, and of being a mother of four boys, to contribute to the school and the Governing Body. I am a Chartered Accountant who moved to the area from London about 14 years ago. As well as four boys, our family consists of two dogs, four goats and three sheep.

Jose Brazier

Co-Opted Governor

My name is Jose Brazier and I have been a Community Governor at St. White's since 1991. In my former job, I taught French at Ribston Hall High School for Girls, Gloucester, so when I was asked to help introduce French at St. White's, I was happy to help Mrs. Wright in the Infants and Mrs. Bowles in the Juniors. I am currently helping in Chestnut Class with Reading but hope to assist with French again in the Autumn. As a Governor, I am on the Curriculum & Standards Committee and find the work interesting and challenging.

David Penney

Co-Opted Governor

Now retired, I have spent my working life as a teacher, head teacher and school inspector both in this country and abroad. I have previously served as governor in three other schools, a junior school, a primary school and a secondary school, sometimes as Chair of Governors. Sport has formed a large part of my life. In my younger days I played cricket and hockey at County level and rugby at club level, although now I’d rather watch others doing so on TV! I am a member of the Finance & Premises and Personnel Committees.

Gareth Hughes

Local Authority Governor

I was appointed the Local Authority Governor for St White’s Primary School in January 2018. Local Authority Governors are nominated by the local authority, Gloucestershire County Council, but appointed by the governing body. My role is to support the school and contribute to the making of strategic decisions. I also sit on the Finance & Premises Committee. Aside from this role, I am a District Councillor on the Forest of Dean District Council representing the Blakeney and Awre ward. On the District Council I sit on the Strategic Overview and Scrutiny Committee. My day job is working in the Constituency Office of the Rt Hon Mark Harper MP, Member of Parliament for the Forest of Dean, as a caseworker.

Clare Tilling

Hello! My name is Clare Tilling and I have been at St White's School for over twelve years. I have taught in all year groups but most
recently in the lower juniors. I run both the choir and the Debating Society in school. I have been the Behaviour Lead, the head of key stage two and the English Coordinator. I am the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator. I have also held the position of Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and now I am delighted and proud to be your Headteacher.
I live fairly locally with my lovely husband. My two gorgeous sons have grown up and left home but I am very fortunate that they both live nearby with their wonderful partners, so I still get to see a lot of them. I enjoy cooking feasts for them when they all come home and in my spare time I knit, and I read – a lot! I sit on both Finance and Curriculum Committees.

Kathryn Goddard

Co-opted Governor

Hello, I have recently been appointed as a Governor and sit on the Curriculum and Standards Committee. I have two teenage children, one of whom attended St Whites. I am a professional photographer and often visit the school to take photographs for the school and produce the year book. When I am not behind the camera, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and baking.

Lynne Adams

Hello, I'm Lynne and I was appointed as a Governor in January 2018, sitting on the Curriculum and Standards Committee; I will be taking responsibility for Special Educational Needs Governor and will be working with Mrs Tilling to ensure the wellbeing of all children's needs are met. I am a History teacher at a secondary school in the Forest of Dean and absolutely love the challenges and successes that this presents. In my spare time, I can be found either taking part in a huge amount of sporting activities or reading!

David Paterson

Staff Governor

As the current year 5 teacher, I am excited to represent the staff of St White's and to support the governing body. I have recently moved to Cinderford with my family (I have three children) and have been teaching for several years. Prior to my teaching career I lived in Bristol and predominately worked in sales environments, spending time managing an outbound sales call centre (sorry!). I have also previously had the experience of being a parent governor at my son's school when we lived in Cheltenham.
